bbcworldservice Crowdsourcer for the World ServiceThe BBC Word Service is rolling out 14 instances of the Stream UK Crowdsourcer to allow it to ingest content from sites around the world.

The tool has bee developed to include multi-lingual support for Arabic, Persian, Hindi, Russian, Chinese and all European languages.

Also being added is functionality that allows:

  • geo-tagging of content
  • search engine optimisation of the output
  • improved tools for evaluating subscribers
  • rss feeds to integrate with internal content management systems.
  •  

    The system will be rolled out to the global audience of 150 million listens through 2008.

    The service has commisioned the Stream UK Crowdsourcer to provide a replacement service to its over-crowded email inboxes.

    The product will not only replace email submissions of breaking content, but also add usability in the form of:

    • transcoding and stardisation of all images and videos received
    • an intuitive and fast evaluation system that quickly lets editors evaluate content
    • integration with internal content management systems through email and web 2.0 technology.

    Due to the nature of the service, the highest standards of reliability and redundancy are being applied.
