Stream UK - webcasting

Webcasting

Webcasting is the live distribution of audio and video material, we checked this with Wikipedia.

Stream UK can manage the entire project from site visit through to on-demand archive. The service includes interactive features, event notification, and full testing pages.

Services include:
  • Site visit and pre-event consultancy;
  • Slide synchronisation with built-in delay to accommodate buffering on end-users’ computers;
  • Interface customised to client’s look and feel;
  • Online voting;
  • Discussion board;
  • Email facility;
  • Pre-event testing suite;
  • Email notification;
  • Telephone support.
Live webcasts can be configured in a number of different ways:
  • Customisation of the interface to reflect the client’s look and feel
  • Restriction of access according to IP address, geography or other rules
  • Full statistical reporting of use
  • Global distribution of streaming media
  • Stream UK technical personnel available for on-site support, live encoding or telephone support
  • Signal acquisition may be done via standard video conferencing equipment (H.263 codec transcoded to Windows Media or RealMedia within our datacentre).

Procedure

In an ideal world we will:

  1. define the event requirements
  2. agree a price
  3. develop the online interface/microsite at least two weeks before the event, giving users a place to check their systems
  4. perform a site visit and agree the on-the-day logistics at least one week before the event
  5. receive all media that is required to be synchronised or introduced at least 24 hours before the event
  6. set-up equipment to be ready 2 hours before the event starts
  7. record several flavours of back-up during the event
  8. edit and upload the event files immediately after the event
  9. produce a full statistical report within 24 hours of the event
  10. produce a post event microsite within 2 days of the event.

Our First Multicamera Webcast

Stream UK's first big webcast was huge: David Attenborough speaking at the Royal Society with three cameras, video mixed in, audience feedback and questions from the internet.

The event went so well, we still use it as an example today.

'Thanks for last night - you guys did a terrific job,' Aosaf Afzal, Events Co-ordination, Royal Society.

Working with you...

We're happy doing as much or as little as you require, from full production right through to providing the bandwidth and a bit of technical know-how.
