Stream UK delivers Microsoft PlayReady for Silverlight

Monday, September 28th, 2009

Stream UK has become one of only six companies worldwide to implement the PlayReady DRM for Silverlight.

Content owners, mobile operators, service providers, and device manufacturers are looking to offer more content to more consumers, through more business models, than ever before. Microsoft PlayReady technology is a content access and protection technology designed to meet these needs for digital entertainment content, products, services, and devices.

Microsoft PlayReady protects content by encrypting data files. There is no need to hide files, make them inaccessible, or put special protection in place when files are transmitted from system to system. In other words, operating system requirements and high-security, file-transport mechanisms are not needed. However, copying a file and giving it to a friend will not enable that friend to use the file if it’s protected by PlayReady. To use an encrypted file, users need a license. This license is the primary way to exercise control over content (the encrypted file). A license is granted to a single client (such as a media player) or a domain (such as a home network). The license will not function on other clients or other domains.

Each license contains rights and restrictions that define exactly how the content may be used and under what conditions. For example, a music file license may enable a “right to play” but restrict the “right to export (burn) to CD.” The license might be valid for the period between October 1, 2009, and November 1, 2009. There may be multiple licenses for a single file. A user will be able to access and use his or her content so long as one of the licenses grants the right, and the restrictions do not prevent access.

Stream UK are a Playready service provider and have the ability to deliver Playready licenses to you or your business. If you wish to discuss Playready please contact us HERE

Stream UK at Frankfurt Motor Show

Thursday, September 17th, 2009

On 15 September 2009 Lexus held a press conference at the Frankfurt International Motor Show to unveil its new groundbreaking LF-Ch full hybrid premium company concept car. This car heralds a new dawn for Lexus as its younger, bolder and more dynamic than any other Lexus car before.

Two members of the Stream UK team were in Frankfurt at the event to encode the press conference and stream it live using the Stream UK content delivery network (CDN). This was another example of Stream UK’s ability to perform on an international job in short time frame. Stream UK’s team setup, managed and oversaw the live streaming of the event while keeping to a specified budget.

The press conference gained worldwide attention receiving over 650 connections from 26 countries worldwide. An on-demand version of the press conference is available HERE

Stream UK are the video and webcast providers behind the Red Bull Bedroom Jam series.

Redbull Bedroom Jam is a once in a lifetime opportunity for new bands seeking their “big break”. Bands upload videos of their gigs, have fans watch and rate them on the site, and then potentially get selected to play at a Red Bull Bedroom Jam session. The Redbull Bedroom Jam begins today and runs for 10 weeks.

Stream UK is proud to not only host the content on our VMS system in conjunction with Xtaster, but we also film the live gigs and manage all of the live streaming.

All of our clients that participated went into the draw to win a bottle of champagne and the winner is Jonathan Birch from ecancermedicalscience
