African Movie Channel, AMC, launched in the UK on the Homechoice platform (now Tiscali TV) in April 2006, and became the only TV channel in the world, outside Africa, dedicated to top quality African movies. Stream UK have now taken this offering online, opening up a huge new market for the channel. Developed, hosted, and streamed by Stream UK, it offers both a subscription and pay-per-view services, and exceptionally high quality viewing.
The African Movie Channel is distributed by the British digital home network Homechoice, which delivers video on-demand and digital TV to millions across London, and provides a valuable service for the under-represented African audience. Last year’s launch of the digital TV channel made it the only service of its kind outside Africa.
Content comprises of Nollywood films (from the enormously popular Nigerian film industry – behind only Hollywood and Bollywood in terms of size and popularity) and other major African motion picture houses, as well as additional programmes, documentaries and dramas. The round the clock service offers both an on-demand pay-per-view service, and a subscription service.
All content is sourced from master versions, so coupled with Stream UK’s expertise in across all formats, and streaming out across the web, the viewer can enjoy exceptional audio and visual full-screen DVD quality, as well as using the interface for normal DVD control functions (pause, rewind…).
Solely developed by Stream UK, it shows the full range of our expertise in the digital world, encompassing:
Database creation with tailored CMS to meet AMC’s needs
Design and build of the African Movie Channel website and portal (with branded embedded player) with integrated and flexible e-Commerce solution
Encrypting and encoding, of (thousands) of files including Digital Rights Management
24 hour delivery and streaming to large numbers of concurrent users

The new company is based in Herefordshire and equipped with a satelitte uplink trunk so it can serve remote locations as easily as the bigger corporate venues.
